Backyard Chickens Workshops at Hilltop Hanover Farms!

The Zander Family of Front Yard Coop will kick off a series of workshops on keeping backyard chickens.

Class 1 (3/17): You’ll learn everything you need to know about getting chicks and starting your own backyard flock. The class will also focus on the healthcare of your chickens, the different illnesses that can affect them and how to prevent and cure.

Class II (4/21): You’ll learn everything you need to know about getting chicks and starting your own backyard flock. This class will also focus on genetics – you can bring your birds, and we will look up the Standard of Excellence for each bird we see, and talk about how to breed for certain characteristics–what to look for, dominant traits, etc.

There have always been some typical myths about raising chickens that are simply not true! They don’t attract bugs, in fact they are great bug control for your yard. They aren’t smelly unless they are locked up without being cleaned out at all. The rooster is the only noisy bird, which isn’t completely necessary to have if you are concerned about the noise. Laying hens are quiet. They need very little space, and maintenance. All they is food, water, shelter. “No calling, training, washing, walking, spaying, or grooming.”

Dear Nancy and Peter:

I wanted to thank you both for another successfully experience for me at Bray Farm. As you know, the hunting part for me is important (and I do treasure any deer meat), but for me it’s the whole experience that Bray Farm gives me.

Once I enter the Bray Farm property, I immediately turn the clock back in time 50-70 years, and I begin to relax! The property, with the beautiful charming 1700′s brick house) and all the wonderful barns and out buildings, the people (you and Nancy of course) makes the entire experience for me a treasure I look forward to every year.

Thank you both for creating this wonderland.
